Of Slacking Off
Is there a better illustration for me about slacking off than this, the stare of your white blank rectangle. Yet this Bacon guy from the 14th century England encourages you to just do that. Yes that Bacon guy, that infamous proto-blogger. In slacking off, you will not fall into the Sibylla's enticement. Let her keep burning her books from 3 to 6 to all 9. This is what happens here. I just wait out the occasion(s) and do not shoot off or buckle down too early.

Nowadays
Hey you, me? Aha.
Just dropin a few sentences here, to sum up the state of my mind. Life feels like a very long journey, a never ending path and ever presence of going.
So other than work, right now I am learning about personal health, gut microbiome, and outdoor travelling with compass indoor.

Write Everyday
Do people still blog nowadays? No? Good, that means it's the cool thing to do again. I will try to write down reflective thoughts everyday here or on my daily log notebook.
Withering Non-Things
We all wither. Let's start with that premise and work through until we find the conclusion of our life epic. Over the years we breathe, we accumulate, and we process things material and non. One of the outcomes is the gazillion-trillions of digital troves. Some people just let it float away and around. I don't understand that attitude even curious and jealous of the care-freeness. But if that is not our path of choice, what then can we do now that is better to leave to our folks our immaterial existences?
Since father passed away just last year, we are going through this kind of bereavement feelings and experiences for the first time especially for me. We also catch a glimpse of what would come if it is our turn to leave this earth and how people would process our post-life material existences. Things are still unraveling for that.
I am not quite sure what would happen to our digital files and even more profoundly our thoughts etched on unremarkable notebooks. Those non-things are just as important and valuable as our material or work belongings. Of course the quick way is to leave series of afterlife messages, but that would be too eerie. Huh, I just want something more poetic and poignant to leave behind before we all fade way.

Health Open
I just returned from a trip to a fever land. Been there a few times, but still after each trip, bring a new same realization that what a gift is health. Being healthy therefore is truly a blessing. Well have to rest now, tomorrow early morning has to get up and do tennis.

Tennis
It's a long weekend here. We just got home from playing tennis. Nice to do some exercises again, just need to get the gears moving again. Yah hopefully with some other things that were left behind by me.

The Recollection of Today
Today started just like the day before, a chase scene from the REM sleep stage (12 stairs within 12 stairs, says a voice), the Evolving Dream (rightly titled) tune from Blackberry, solid morning sun rays (8.43am), and the battle of concepts between I-need-a sleep-camp with wake up-pick up-yourself-and-do-life-camp. The urge to unwake and wake was equal. But these days waking up had been quite drab. Drab enough for me to write after how many months? Two year!
By now, or then in today's yesterday morning, the rush was on. Did grumping about life but managed to put in a few instant-noodle-type prayer words. Will I be ready. So I continued cleansing, did a hurried breakfast downstair, read news, devilishly feeling perhaps somehow that there were other people in larger mess out there. The latest twisteria of graft news was quite worth following. Hopping in the car. The cabin was a second place of refuge, an early truce in the morning. While driving, I was also listening to a few podcasts. That's a good ritual to do.
Office was great but work was difficult. Life was complicated. Tomorrow would not be better. Today I will see in the next few hours.

When change comes to town.
What do you think 2011? It not even over yet but we have witnessed a sweeping social transformation across vast landscape unprecedented in scale and number. It is really a change season. I wouldn't have been able to grasp the real significant of these chain of events without real pondering it. First because of the distance from here and second because of the mechanics of their political culture that I am so foreign to. But I and I am sure you too agree these kind of social revolution, the yearning inside, is universal and basic. Think about the distant or the precursor to these modern popular uprising, the French revolution? or way back even to William the Orange?
Actually we did experience one in 1998, the people led by students toppled a powerful secular militarist regime who had reigned for 32 years, Suharto. He is more like a Mubarak-type (but without the cage thinggy). That one ended up quite well. It changed totally the atmosphere of the country and we now have one the most thriving democratic populations in the world even more vibrant than many of the developed nations. But it is a messy one. But that's ok, what is not in this world , right?
The next one near here was the one in Thailand a couple years ago. When exactly I forgot, but what's happening to it now? Did it bring a significant change?
So, I guess what I'm trying to say is, I am incredibly lucky to live in the year of 2011 to be a witness, albeit a detached one, from the social tsunamis going on in North Africa and the Middle East. They do have an impact. They do reverberate across the globe. In and through all darkness, we know hope will thrive, freedom will rise. Now let's watch Libya.

Hello, any-me there?
Desire(s) in life is a weird being. The greatest thing I felt lately is the fact that I am moving on to another new phase, or actually more like a sub-phase of a new phase. It is that I don't have to teach a class anymore next months. I don't know why, but I felt a great relief. Of course we all familiar with teaching job and know well the worth of it. I am glad that I tried it, enjoyed it, loved enjoying it, and now can live it behind for good. (Let's say for a good two or three years.)
That's my garden of perpetual delight lately.

Starry Kapuas
I am on a ferry crossing the Kapuas river now. We are on our way to Pontianak driving on road from Ketapang since yesterday. The whole trip has been quite exhausting for me. But the reward is here now tonight as I look up the sky. Stars are beautiful! It's pitch dark up there after a whole day of raining yesterday. Oh... always baffled by this astronomical feat, a chance to take a peek of the inner working of the universe. I also feel connected to hundreds of generations before me of people across lands who had been looking up at skies as the most ancient book.
Do you realize that we are not looking at merely objects but the fabric of time and space. Each twinkling of the stars are a bit of information from the past, millions of light years away (or ago).

Oups, we got to the other side at Tayan now. Got to go.

Goodness is Sweet
Sometimes I think I am too naïve about people... I still hold on to the belief that all people is essentially good in the core if you can see it. And those other uglier things in life are the chemical reactions.. emanating, bouncing off from each of us.
Well, there are times when I doubt that personal belief or principle or worldview about people but always return back to my initial belief. The reason is always because of the goodness I receive from some people. Yeah, there are quite a lot of jerks in this world and have to admit sometimes I am one of them too to other people. There are also quite a few incredibly good people that almost always in constant proportion to the jerks. It is through these encounters with genuinely good people that I can take more bad people in life. It is strange.. As if good/kindness is more expensive or more valuable than the uglier things in life.
Goodness is sweet.

May again
It's the end of May. Time is not passing away fast but intense. Just waiting at the airport now, yeah, meaning that I can bring books that I couldn't read at home and has a few free times to do it in transit or travel.

The Confession of an Amateur
I think my affair with this profession will continue to define my life for many years to come. This perpetual dialog between me and the inanimate stones and bricks around us continue to occupy the majority of my daily conscience. I am geekized. For example, I am currently working on a private residence or more like a villa for a private developer. This is it finally the house project. Of course I am brain dead suddenly and so unwilling to access all the canonical houses studied in school. Just want to jump ahead, yeah, head first. :) Then you know having fun for the first minutes and then the black hole.. the white paper becoming really oppresive because suddenly unable to think "innovatively", the problem of how not to become an amateruish amateur? Ok as a good student of Modernist, the ghost of Corb will always there vividly hanging in front of your eyes. But how to do a good Corb? This diminutivetating sense descending upon you and I still has blank sheet of paper without any lineatiation that is useful. And this fear is new to me. Interesting experience nonetheless.

The Desire of the 31th
The desire in the last day of the year is always strong, somehow we become ambivalent about letting the day to pass. A desire to work against time but we know it's hopeless. It conjures up the imagery of Atlas holding up a globe, just waiting, a suspension of time, when will he let it go, soon. Last year I made some wishes or resolutions, why? Because everybody else did it. Yeah that's a stupid reason. So around the same time today last year, I made three.
I didn't able to fulfill any of them. My year turned out to be totally different from what I expected. As always, it turned out to be much much much more exciting with a few bits of significant pains. But, hey... Don't want it the other way. Thanks God, He didn't listen to my boring 'resolutions' and gave me something beyond my wildest imagination. 2009 still feels like a dream. It's then time to wake up... Ehm or should I? Our cosmic life doesn't operate on a Jan-December basis, does it? Well... Let's go into 10, here I come.

Gus Away
Gus Dur, our fourth president, passed away today, a few hours ago. He is my role model for a man of faith: an extremist in loving God and loving people. Really a jewel of the nation!

Is to be a Photographer
I dont know if I have shared this with some of you. I think the ideal and the coolest profession I dream of is to be a full time (and relatively sufficient) photographer. That's the one that consistently pops-up my mind, with many "wouldn't it be cool if..." moments. I imagine, I will just wake-up every morning or ever ynight just to figure out where is the next cool space I should go now. And then go there and go enjoying the space, probing, interogating, and lastly framing the space into the camera. Click. Other cool professions I consider are: movie-maker, writer, musician, singer-songwriter like Glen Hansard (haha), neuro-scientist, and physicist (is that the correct word?).
PS: I love blogspot, feel so good here, able to vent my thought more than the inhumane 140-character in Twitter. But have you create one? You will love the pain of that 140.
